The Oxygen 8.2mm is Edelweiss Ropes' high performance half rope.
Being part of the Perform 3 concept, it has innovative Edelweiss features including HD Cover, for extreme toughness and rope handling, and the Supereverdry treatment which not only makes the rope nearly waterproof but dramatically increases the life span of a rope designed for the harshest environments.
The Edelweiss Perform 3 generation of ropes, true to their reputation of durability and reliability, gives lighter and of better handling, with even more shock absorption. This is the result of a dedicated development on the material, its treatment and on the very construction of the rope itself.
HD Cover is a technology through which each cover thread is individually controlled, as opposed to standard braiding where the threads are controlled by pairs.
With this High Definition braiding and although the thickness of the sheath remains the same, the rope surface is much smoother than with a standard braiding, the rope doesnt generate extra braking in belay systems and actions become more comfortable; another positive consequence, the wear due to abrasion is also reduced and the rope lifetime accordingly extended.
EDELWEISS was the first climbing rope maker to apply a Supereverdry treatment to its fibres.
The benefits of a Supereverdry treatment are self-evident: the ropes are lighter in case of humidity, dry quicker and don´t tend to stiffen due to freezing. The Supereverdry treatment is applied to all fibres in the core and the sheath. Comparative tests demonstrate the superiority of this treatment over competing methods of other manufacterers with repect to durability as well as efficiency.
Unicore is an astonishing process, bonding rope sheath and core without affecting the rope's suppleness. Even in the hardest conditions of use sheath slippage is suppressed. If the sheath is cut or torn, core and sheath remain bonded together.
With a standard rope, if the sheath is cut by abrasion over an edge, a frequent occurrence in work at height and in rescues, it slides and gathers over some metres. It then becomes impossible to pass this zone, either to ascend or to descend. If the problem occurs near to the end of the rope the sheath may slide off completely, and the user fall to the ground.
With the UNICORE process the sheath remains in place and the user may escape, either by descent or ascent, taking all necessary precautions. He/she is not stuck without a solution on the rope. The UNICORE process brings an undeniable gain in security during delicate and dangerous operations.
For orders below £100 it's currently a very reasonable £3.50 charge.
