As a keen wearer of Salomon clothing and shoe’s I was delighted to be asked to trial the new Salomon Out day pack and put it to the test over many different days and different adventures. This is a fantastic piece of kit which is I was keen to use as I normally carry my running kit and spare clothing in a smaller Salomon travel bag. My other packs are smaller so to have something, where I can be out for longer, was ideal.

Firstly the pack is extremely smart looking and this one is in a lovely Lilac gray colour combination with a subtle design ideal for outdoor pursuits but most of all extremely comfortable to wear. There is a padded back panel which allows air to flow through giving good ventilation and making it more comfortable to wear as you are hiking or walking. It has a motion fitness harness which provides a stable fit ensuring confidence and support. I have quite a small frame and when trying out previous packs I have felt a bit overwhelmed by them and immediately uncomfortable. For me, comfort has to come first as I can be out for quite a long time up on the hills and can carry quite a lot of spare kit, fluids and food.

The pack provides two options for the wearer on how to carry their fluid. This is a strong design point as you have the option to either carry 500 ml soft flasks or a bladder system. The soft flasks can be carried on the front and for myself, I find this option beneficial as I am used to running and keeping an eye on my fluid intake by using soft flasks. I wanted to try out my bladder system also in the day pack and found it to be comfortable and easy to use. There is an internal pocket where the bladder pack can slip inside and be carried snug against your back so depending on how long you are planning to be out you can gauge which hydration system is best to use on your adventure.

There are versatile storage compartments with one large main pocket with top access and which can be closed with one hand. An expandable front pocket which allows the wearer to access it from the outside from a zipped opening. An expandable zipped front pocket and another front pocket to carry a soft flask, 2 zipped belt pockets and 2 expandable side pockets. Quick access flap straight into the main compartment allowing you to access any kit or clothing required without removing the pack. I also really liked the internal top storage compartment hidden in the top flap.

Overall I was very impressed with this pack, comfortable to wear but robust to ensure that all clothing and kit was secure while out walking or hiking. Lightweight with padded shoulder straps again ensuring comfort and support. Also retractable ice pick storage, an adjustable lightweight pole carrying system, a reflective buckle for a torch and reflective markings which all come together to provide you with a really smart storage system whatever you plan to do.

For everyone who loves the technical part and finds it useful, the overall weight is 671g with a volume capacity of 24L and the dimensions are 52 x 25 x 22 cm.
