“My husband and I bought a house in the Alps near Courchevel 16 years ago, predominately because we loved skiing, but we quickly fell in love with hiking in the mountains during spring and summer.
“In addition to my outdoor activities, I also take part in several fitness classes and use the gym almost daily, so when I started to suffer from serious heel, knee and hip pain while walking I was very worried. I consulted Mark Wilkinson, a physiotherapist in Skipton, who then advised me to make an appointment with the Rebound Clinic in Settle.
“Andrew Stanley at Rebound diagnosed a number of issues, and fortunately these could be remedied with orthotics. During a three-week period in July I hiked in the mountains every day, usually using steep and very uneven mountain trails. In the past, descending after a steep climb would cause severe knee pain and my ankle would feel very unstable, but to my delight the custom-made orthotics in my shoes improved my posture and walking so much that I had only a slight ache at the end of the longest downhill hike of 18 kilometres. I am aiming to walk even more during August and September.
“I had hoped for an improvement, but the results are much better than I expected. I just wish I had consulted Rebound years ago! Their service and efficiency are first class.”
